Christmas, where are you?

Christmas, where are you?
Me I LOVE Christmas the lights the trees anything and everything to do with it. I’m from the United States where it’s all the way or nothing on Christmas. Moving away from my family 11 years ago and moving to a place that its summer during Christmas took some getting used to. My traditions and those of my family seem to clash om Christmas  I  put my Christmas music on and  do my thing with the help of my oldest daughter.
I get the excuse from hubby “ it’s just not  how we do it here” Ok where I live now  I feel a big push against any form of  holiday and especially  Christmas and those saying it’s commercialized just to make money. For me it’s not about the gifts it never really was except when I was a child. It’s about doing things as a family decorating and laughing. Having a feasts that you normally wouldn’t have but for the holiday. Having a family to share this exciting time with. Most celebrate the birth of Jesus, even though he wasn’t born until June or July < if I’m not mistaken>. But hey it’s all good. To me it’s also about celebrating Life of both living & dead. Appreciating all those that you love and love you. It’s about living another year and having a roof over your head and a bed to sleep in.
Now I want to tackle the “money” commercialization of Christmas. I think we all have our vises and we each enjoy buying things that make us happy. Well mine is Christmas I love the lights and the songs. OK so call me the crazy Christmas lady. But please don’t rain on my parade enjoy your family wear those ugly sweaters put up with obnoxious uncle Al or Sally, eat more than you should and live life like Jesus would want or whatever god or goddess to praise. Make Dec. 25th a Day to be thankful and count your blessings because it could be your last one to enjoy.

How to decorate < my way> a Christmas Tree

How to decorate < my way> a Christmas Tree

Hello Christmas Lovers I’m posting a blog on how I decorate my trees for Christmas. I know we all are different and like many different styles just thought I’d put my own ideas on tree decorating to the test to compare what others do.
Buying a tree I myself like different trees for different styles. Tall, thin, full, white, sparse branches so many to choose from. Once you choose the tree figuring out lights can be tricky. Nothing worse than a tree with poorly placed lights. Seeing lonely string place hap hazardly on a 7ft tree. I use at least 100 to  150 lights per foot. That is the least I like  more  but it’s a good start I usually like to  put  some  white lights  in the center of a solid color  around the trunk of a fuller tree. The sparse trees I do not do this.  Fluff each branch try not to be uniform you want it to look like it would in nature. Once this is done you are ready for lights. Then placing your ornaments out and looking at what you have to use. My suggestion for that would be 14 large ornaments< such as flower picks or statement pieces for your theme > for bald spots.  10 medium sized, ones 20 ordinary sizes ones then your fillers the colored balls that you can get cheaply at any store.  Also decide if you’d like beads, tinsel or ribbons. Then finally your tree topper star, angel or Santa.
Placing the lights I try to put the end of each string of lights in a central area. Even better to get the lights where you plug into the other to have a solid string of lights.

Starting at the bottom and the inside of the tree weave the light through the branch to end tucking into the branch working you way up the tree to the center. Then begin the next string of lights working down from top to the center to meet with the other lights.
After stringing stand back see if you need to move any slightly. The begin placing the statement pieces on the tree. Please use hooks for all ornament so each one hangs as it should and they will be secure on your tree. Especially if you have cats who love climbing.
Then adding the medium ones try not to be precise, natural looking is best. .  I know it’s hard being OCD myself but take a deep breath and let it go. Always place some on the inside of the tree as well as the ends. The large you need to place in the tree more if heavy.  With flowers place into the tree not on the ends of the branches. This gives the tree depth. Moving on to the regular sized ones then adding the fillers. Again stand back looking around as you go looking for holes.

Finally we move to the end accents < beads, tinsel, ribbons or bows> this is really personal to taste and a tricky one to tell you all how. I do both ribbons on one tree and beads on another. So look at styles you like and go from there.  I find most make their mistakes with lighting and ornament placing the rest is dressing placing ribbon make the cascade through the tree as well as the beads. Beads I use wire to attach to the end of branches to hang. Again try to make it natural not uniform.   I hope this helps I’ll add pictures of a few of my personal trees.

Vintage or New

Walking through the stores I find myself  looking at what the stores have in quality Christmas ornaments.I feel disappointed and discouraged buying anything new to put on my tree. Looking at  the details they seem to be lost and messy looking  the glass ornaments seem thin and  even more fragile than ever.

Finding Vintage seems to be the way to go for some anyway searching on places like ebay & etsy finding treasure from the past the colors and detail a bit faded but looking good.
Here are a few examples :

Noel Santa

Holly Girl

Mrs Santa

Also good if you can get a few choice pieces  blended with  plain balls depending  on the tree and size of the ornament you at least need 10 to 14 quality ornaments.
Here  are a few  examples:

Retro Ball

Christmas-Finial

Rustic Owl

Do you like tinsel garland bows or beads to give a finished look? I find the seams are messy with new but when old you have worn areas and color difference. So personal preferences play a big part in what you want or need. Share  you thoughts and experience  :)

Living in a warm climate for Christmas

Hello Christmas Lovers

I really love Christmas the smells and wintery themes of snowmen , snowflakes, sleigh bells & warm cracking fires. Living in North America for most of my life becoming accustom to those things.

Moving to a warmer climate to marry and raise my family I find it difficult to enjoy the same type of things I associate to Christmas. It's been 10 years since I moved here and so much want to enjoy but find it hard not having those warm fuzzy feelings. My family is the most important part and I realize that but want to capture that spirit I had back home in America. All the songs are geared for winter holly and mistletoe.

I want to hear about the summer things people enjoy that makes Christmas. I've tried for years to make a summer themed christmas tree but I find it so hard because all we see in the stores are Santa’s in big red suits or snowmen. Why!!??? Is it because there isn't a market for it? Is it that most who are in the warmer climates just do not celebrate like other parts of the world? One of our traditions is to ride around counting trees we could see in the houses and playing Christmas CD’s in the car singing as loud as possible. The person who counted the most by the end of the night won. Sadly because where I live it’s not dark until 8 or 9 in the evening. Also hardly anyone decorates one out of maybe 10 houses if lucky. I find most here revolt in commercialism of Christmas. Just today on the news a  local department store who has  had a  huge Santa  in  the downtown area decided it was  not in the budget to  put up this  year. Santa Story Here Well thank god the people who love Christmas came together to save it. Why and how do we as  Christmas Lovers  get those that don't understand why it’s important to  have traditions.

Only 62 days until Christmas 2014

I Love Everything Christmas

I Love Everything Christmas

I've always loved Christmas. It's not about the gifts it’s about the love and good energy between people who understand the joy in what Christmas is all about. When i was  a child it was about the  gifts,  but  as i grew older  i realized how important family was to  me. With such a busy life it’s really hard to get the family together.

When it seemed the only time we did get together was a death. Sad but true, but in the same token those times make you understand  how precious life is and to celebrate with those you love.

I plan to explore all types of tradition for Christmas around the world. I also want to share fun things such as recipe's, tutorials on how to do things all surrounding Christmas.
